Physics

It seems that the rules of chemistry give the easiest way to determine how life arises from matter, what kind of an architecture life owns and how it works as a non-stopping chain reaction. By the aid of rules of chemistry, it is easy to see what kind of basic structures are possible to make from the definite set of elements and how does these structures transform to other ones. Still, the fundamental basics of life lies in physics. Laws of physics go deepest into the essence of everything. Natural sciences as such are quite “block oriented” (by this I don’t mean they are simple sciences!), but with physics one can explain how attractions between these blocks occur, why actually macromolecules, like enzymes, don’t function in too high temperatures and which reactions are favorable in the terms of thermodynamics. Furthermore, by the methods of physics one can reveal the rules how energy is received or transmitted only in the fixed packets of quanta, how that sugar molecule on the tip of your tongue constantly radiates infrared photons when it vibrates etc. Also, the intuitive everyday view of the world may be useful in our everyday life, but what we actually see is the synergy of millions and millions of quantum mechanical atoms and electromagnetic waves. The real nature of the universe is buried under this illusion. One interesting experiment showing this is the famous double slit experiment. Shortly, if you “throw” molecules (relative big building blocks of matter) through a plane which has two or more holes in it, single molecules seem to go through multiple holes at once. The beautiful double slit experiment showed that material can behave like strange waves, in addition to its particle like features. Like said, this doesn’t seem to have any remarkable role in our everyday scope. When studying and building the Nano World, these phenomena do matter however.

Home made short iron open sights for Winchester 9422 .22 mag WMR lever action. Bullet trajectories, bore and sight lines are shown in different situations.

“That does it!” I thought yesterday, after I shot two times a hazel grouse with my .22 WMR Winchester and the bird didn’t die. Sometimes it is really difficult to estimate the correct aiming point for the game, especially when … Continue reading →

Schematic for super simple ultrasound resonator driving circuit. Tosi yksinkertainen kytkentäkaavio ultraääniresonaatiota varten.

I have dreamed about a hand held diving sonar, which could be used for measuring the deepness of water. I already tried to do this project a couple of years ago, but I wasn’t enough skilled to overcome the technical … Continue reading →

Illustration of Quantum Odds

So far I have had a good qualitative figure about the strange quantum phenomena, which constantly proceeds under the “surface” (in the air, under our skins, in the light that scatters through the window etc). When I try to explain … Continue reading →

A transparent metal lock which is imaged by a X-rays.

Currently I’m working with a so called X-ray Microtomography (µCT) system, which is used for peeking inside of small things. For example, by X-rays it is possible to look inside of biological structures, like in tissues in their native 3D … Continue reading →

Marbles and a surface anomaly in a box representing a quantum mirage

Before I go any further, I must warn that I’m at the beginning of my physics studies, so I might say something really silly here! Anyhow, shortly about what I have recently found: Imagine that you have a flat surface … Continue reading →
