Hunting means for me to be a part of something great and ancient. As living organisms, we must gain our nutrients somehow, and as higher consumers we have had tight ties with hunting for thousands of years. Furthermore, hunting is not only a way of life for me, but I also have the responsibility to carry these traditions, knowledge and bond to nature for further generations. I’m a part of this long chain of the wisest predators ever walked over this planet. I hope that people, even the most alienated from the nature, could understand that hunting can be sustainable. A grouse born in this spring may not survive over the next winter, because of limited food resources, diseases or hungry goshawks. By sustainable hunting, even game can be collected like berries that would otherwise rot in a forest. Instead, our common way of life is ecologically really unsustainable. As a responsible hunter, I try to avoid producing unnecessary pain for the game, even though I will take the life of an animal. I keep it ethically much more acceptable than the ecologically harmful way of keeping animals in their small gages for their whole lives. Or compare hunting to the pain a hawk produces when it captures its pray in nature. Though, the hawk is a hawk, but as intelligent beings humans should shape up.
