During most of the hiking trips I hunt. Anyway, I’m not impatient in my camp when a night falls down and I wait for the next day. While sitting next to a camp fire, I usually look at the stars, trying to imagine how far they really are or do they even exist anymore. When I look at the moon, I see its mountains and valleys, a grey, endless desert. Funny, it is really a concrete land above us, separated only by an empty space. Sometimes when the camp fire weakens and I finish my tea, interesting things start to happen. Once I looked straight into the eyes of a moose which stared at me about ten meters away. Sometimes Ural owls join my company. I usually start to mimic sounds of rodents, and the odd fellows rotate their heads and start to fly over me. They are like soundless ghosts in the darkest moments of the nights. Then, they will finally raise and vanish into the deepness of the forest. You can imagine how much inspiration I get from these silent, dark and melancholic nights in a forest. Sometimes I have a small guitar and harmonica with me. Once I was quite happy as I managed to trap the dark, nocturnal mood in one of my songs I composed in the forest. Sometimes there is multiple degrees of freeze outside, but I enjoy it as I can do some ice fishing, and during nights I read interesting books under my lean-to. Although, after the most extreme trips I really appreciate the goods found in cities in a totally new way. I wish I could spare this pleasure with other people, who have used too much to these comfortable conditions served by our modern times. After a couple days in a frozen wilderness one really feels living again!
